The Office of Equal Opportunity Programs ensures College compliance with the following federal and state laws:

  • Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
  • Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
  • South Carolina Human Affairs Law
  • Age Discrimination Act of 1975, as amended
  • Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as amended

These laws protect individuals from discrimination on the basis of protected classes. Who We Are

The Office of Equal Opportunity Programs is the office designated by the College of Charleston to receive formal complaints of discrimination or harassment, including under Title IX. The Office of Equal Opportunity Programs was established at the College of Charleston to ensure equal opportunity for all members of our college community. Since its inception, the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs has sought to eliminate discrimination and harassment, and has overseen the College of Charleston's non-discrimination policies and investigation process for faculty, staff, and students. What We Do

The Office of Equal Opportunity Programs ensures prompt response to complaints of discrimination by students, employees, and/or applicants for employment or college admission based on the following: age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, national origin, pregnancy, race/color, retaliation, religion, sex/sexual harassment, veteran status and uniform services. The Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs is responsible for coordinating the grievance procedures under federal equal opportunity guidelines.
